Patrice Little DNP, FNP-BC

The inception of NP Student® Magazine began with advocacy. While completing her Doctor of Nursing Practice scholarly project to increase access to care for Georgians, Dr. Patrice Little encountered a legislator who believed nurse practitioner (NP) training mirrored that of physicians. This moment highlighted a broader issue—not only in legislative awareness of NP roles but also in the gaps within NP education itself, where much of today’s training is online, leading to variations in practical experience and limited peer support.

Determined to bridge these gaps, Dr. Little drew on her media experience as a member of Atlanta Parent Magazine’s Parent Advisory Board to create NP Student® Magazine—the first publication dedicated to NP students. This quarterly magazine blends essential educational resources with lifestyle content, offering students a well-rounded guide through every stage of their NP journey.

She also leveraged her secondary science experience to create innovative frameworks that enhance NP student retention, standardize preceptorships, and promote health equity and co-developed NP Student® Bootcamp, an intensive pre-curriculum program designed to give students a jumpstart at the core of NP practice.

Dr. Little is a Fellow at the Academy of Diverse Emerging Nurse Leaders (ADENL) at Vanderbilt University. and an adjunct faculty member at Georgia Baptist College of Nursing of Mercer University. She holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice, an MSN-FNP, and degrees in Biology/Pre-Medicine and Nursing. Additionally, she has contributed to Advanced Practice Nursing Leadership: A Global Perspective (2020) and The Future of Nursing 2020-2030, and recently published The Starter Guide to Think Like an NP (2024), providing aspiring NPs with a step-by-step guidance to gaining admission into top NP programs. Through NP Student® Magazine and her advocacy, Dr. Little remains committed to advancing the nursing profession through strategic partnerships, innovative educational initiatives, and advocacy for the next generation of nurse practitioners.
